Greetings from Whistler and Pemberton,

It feels like Juneuary this week in Whistler, but Pemberton is a whole lot warmer by at least 5 degrees. My husband has been golfing in a short sleeve shirt in Pemberton while I have been wearing my puffy golfing in Whistler. The Bike Park opened on May 31, Fitzsimmons Zone kicks things off open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Garbo and Creekside are currently scheduled to open by June 12th. Check out The Whistler Insider to find out more about What’s Happening in Whistler. There are lots of bears this year so be careful on the trails and golf courses, I had one on my deck for a half hour this weekend, he was trying to take my BBQ apart for a snack and Tracey has a mom and 2 cubs hanging around her property as well as three big bears!

The sales are a down this week, mostly due to lack of inventory. Currently there are 190 listings compared to 366 we had in May 2020 for Whistler and Pemberton currently only has 47 listings compared to 78 in May 2020, that’s it! When a listing comes on the market there are 5 buyers or more it seems for each listing. Buyers have to be ready to jump on it when they see a property they like. We are hoping that after the 2nd step of the restart programme, June 15th expecting this travel restriction is lifted, we will see people coming to Whistler and Pemberton from all over BC. Our inventory may increase as owners will be able to come here and pack up their properties and put them on the market. We know it has been difficult for people who want to sell but just can’t seem to get here to get their place ready for sale. As always, we welcome new listings! Call or email if you would like us to review your property for a market evaluation.

We look forward to hearing from you and hope you and your families are well.

Whistler Locals continue protesting against old-growth logging

It was Whistler’s third local rally in as many weeks.

Rainy skies didn’t deter a crowd of Whistler locals from gathering in the village on Sunday, June 6 to continue calling for an end to old-growth logging in B.C. Carrying handmade cardboard signs and drums, demonstrators met in Whistler Olympic Plaza at noon before marching up the Village Stroll.

Sunday’s demonstration was held in solidarity with the hundreds of British Columbian and First Nations activists who’ve been blockading the area surrounding Fairy Creek since last August, all in an effort to stop a forestry company from logging portions of the last unprotected, intact old-growth valley on southern Vancouver Island.  It was Whistler’s third local protest in as many weeks, following last weekend’s rally at the intersection of Highway 99 and Lorimer Road.
