Typically we would be just about over the rainy season here in Whistler around this time of year, but rainy season hasn’t been so rainy this year. With an odd winter season, limited rain so far and forest fire threats though out our region, it’s time to get our rain dance on! The standard rainy season might be wrapping up, but seeing some moisture around here would be a great surprise! Being prepared for some indoor days with the kids is a great way to enjoy the rain this spring/summer. If you’re the one entertaining the kids while school is out, here are a few great things to know about indoor actives in Whistler in case of gloomy whether.
Library Weekly Happenings
Hitting the library can be much more than just checking out a book! The Whistler Library offers some unique programs for kids of all ages all summer long!
Parent-Infant Drop-In is held every Thursday at 11am at the Library. It is a free gathering with no registration requirements. Simply come by with your little one and enjoy a new weekly experience together! Sometimes guest speakers will come, some weeks are stroller walks, each week is something new, but rain or shine this class has something every Thursday. Read More
Toddlers have their own weekly event too! Fridays at 10am are for you and your 18month old to 3 year old to enjoy together! No registration required for this free weekly program. Just drop by and enjoy readying books, signing songs and learning rhymes with your toddler. Read More
For children 3 and up, the Library hosts a Rhyme and Song program on Tuesdays at 11am. A free program offered weekly for you and your young one to enjoy learning new songs and rhymes together.
Get Active Indoors
Don’t let the rain stop you from being physical! There are plenty of ways to burn off energy inside in this town.
Climbing at the core is a perfect activity for anyone, but especially loved by kids and the kids at heart. If you don’t have climbing experience yourself, check in with the core when you and your kids can get a lesson so you are comfortable to go back on your own! Ice Skate year round at Meadow Park or go for a swim indoors! Daily drop in times are available year round, just check in here for changing information.

Educational
Rainy days are perfect days to check out many of the Whistler art galleries. There is a large variety of different types of art made by local artists to view. Enjoy learning more about each artist’s creative process, or about the different genres of work. There are formal galleries in the village and lots of art scattered through out stores, cafes and hotel lobbies! Turn it into an art hunt!
The Whistler Museum tells the storey of Whistlers history and how the town became what it is today. Hint, this is near the Library for a back-to-back activity day!
Another great place to spend a rainy day at is the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Center. This beautiful building not only explains the believes of the Squamish Lil’wat culture, but it showcases their art, history and you’ll be sure to leave with a sight seeing list of things to check out along the Sea-to-Sky highway that have significance to their culture.
